My friend’s little sister’s wedding wasn’t until four in the afternoon so I had plenty of time to take the bathroom over in my preparations to get ready (and enjoy a Corona or two to calm my nerves.) I wasn’t going to get a chance to see any of the family until the wedding and in most cases it had been years since we had last visited so I was definitely a little anxious.
The VNM™ suited up and we drove the 12 miles or so upriver to the Asotin Fairgrounds and the location of the Bennett Building – the venue for the nuptials and reception. In the spacious metal building I quickly tracked down my best friend and then his Mom (who had spent many years putting up with our shenanigans) so I could introduce her to my date and find out where everyone was.
She directed us to sit at the “Family” table on the Bride’s side and after we got in all the possible “hellos” and mini-reunions we settled in for the show.
The bride and groom were absolutely stunning and the ceremony was simple and sweet, just like her older brother’s had been. After they were presented as man and wife and settled at their table we were treated to touching and amusing speeches from her best friend and his little brother. I cried more than once, dammit.
It didn’t take much longer for the troughs of Coors Light to be uncovered again, the food came out and the photobooth went into full swing as the DJ went to work. The guests had been provided with personalized coozies as party favors and everywhere in sight, people (including myself) were heeding their ”bottoms up” call.
As the night progressed and the beverages were flowing the dance floor slowly started to fill up with the younger celebrants and I got out there to do some ass-shakin’ with my friend’s little brother. I had known him since he was about 3, when we used to hang him up on doorknobs by the back of his underwear to keep him out of our way for a bit, but somewhere along the way of him growing up in Idaho the boy found some moves. Since the VNM™ isn’t into booty-shakin’ on the dance floor, the Lil Bro showed me a good time most of the night and I finally got some long overdue grooves in – he did his best to wear me out.
We briefly considered trying to stick it out through wee hours of the morning to continue the party at my friend’s place, but ultimately the VNM™ wisely drove us both back to our room and we crashed out almost immediately.
