While I still need to follow up on our trip to Chuckanut Drive and tell you all about my emergency trip to the dentist (first dental appointment in over 10 years – oy,) I spent most of last week getting ready for a trip to Moses Lake to visit the VNM™’s brother, niece and nephew.
Since we were leaving ASAP on Friday, I spent Thursday night baking pineapple cupcakes with pina colada frosting (I hate to visit anyone empty handed.) I loaded them up and got the stuff for our road trip cooler ready before I crashed out for the night.
The next day after work I frantically ran last minute errands and packed up my back pack before we finally headed on our way around 6:30 PM. We stopped in Ellensburg for some grub and rolled into Moses Lake around 11 PM to find the kids still awake anticipating our arrival. We stayed up a little later as I chatted with the VNM™’s niece about the Hunger Games book she was reading and he caught up with his brother.
The next day we all slept in unusually late but got moving as soon as we were up to get ready for a trip to the lake for a little boating.
We headed over to the sand dunes and pulled up to the beach for a quick lunch and a little entertainment from some drunk locals before the VNM™’s brother gave us a tour of the lake. It’s a cute little place, that Moses Lake.
We headed back to his bro’s place and then he and I took a little side trip trying to find the neighbor’s peacock – while the photo isn’t so good, the mission was indeed accomplished so we headed back for a nice bbq dinner with beers and more goofing off in the country.
It was a nice quiet evening as the kids watched movies and read until bed time and we crawled into the sack ready for a quick trip back home to Seattle.
It was a lovely change of pace to get out of the city for some fresh air and warmth and water and time with family (as an only child I clearly don’t have any nieces and nephews, but the VNM™ and his big ol’ crew do their best to make me feel included.) I imagine we’ll be doing it again very soon.
